TripAdvisor has both Inquiries and Booking Requests and, while these are similar, here are some of the differences:
- An Inquiry works as one would expect. The guest sends a message about the listing and it flows into MyVR as an inquiry. Messaging can be used to work out the details about the potential reservation and answer questions. However, creating and sending the quote and accepting the booking must be done in the TripAdvisor dashboard. They currently do not support these features in their integration.
- A Booking Request is an actual request to book for a specific date range. On the TripAdvisor platform, this creates a quote based on the current rates and availability. These will come into MyVR as Tentative Reservations with terms agreed. The Rates, Availability, and Terms are all synced from MyVR to TripAdvisor. The Rental Contract is synced from the Booking Policy for the Property in MyVR.
Booking Requests will need to be Accepted or Declined only in the TripAdvisor dashboard as the TripAdvisor integration does not support this as a feature. If nothing is done, the quote for the Booking Request will expire based on the expiration settings in the Booking Policy.
A user should not accept the reservation in MyVR at any time. Once the reservation has been accepted in TripAdvisor, this will automatically update the status of the reservation in MyVR.
